Fishing at Lake Piru
Lake Piru has largemouth bass, rainbow trout, catfish, redear sunfish, crappie, and bluegill. The lake has plenty of structure where bass like to hang out. The best months for fishing, as in most of the regional lakes, are March through May. Areas have been set aside for shore fishing and float tubes.
Where to Fish on Lake Piru
Bass anglers find good success in most of the coves such as Reasoner Cove, Diablo Cove, Cow Cove, and Santa Felicia Cove. They also do well in the narrows area of the lake. During winter months the fish are down to 15 to 60 feet.
Trollers looking for trout like the cove north of the boat ramp as well as the main lake arm. In summer when the water warms, they work the deeper spots near the dam. From shore, anglers do well in the area north of the boat ramp and into the cove. Watch out for rattlesnakes.
