Boating Regulations
Because Diamond Valley Lake is a drinking water supply, no body contact with the water is allowed and special regulations govern the types of boats, engines, and fuels that may be used in the lake. Play it safe. Call and make a reservation even if you are bringing your own boat. Parking is limited.
A summary of the Boating Regulations and the Inspection Procedures are provided below. More complete information can be found at the following websites:

Diamond Valley Lake Boat Inspections
An inspection of all vessels is required before they enter the lake. Inspections are from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily at the Searl Parkway entrance to the east marina. This is the first gate once you turn off of Domenigoni Parkway. Boats that pass inspection receive a sticker, which means you won't have to be inspected again. The following items are the key things they will be checking:
- Boats must be at least 12 feet long, 42 inches wide and have 12 inches of freeboard at idle speeds.
- Kayaks and Canoes must be at least 10 feet long, be none-bailing, and have seating for all passengers. No sit-on-top kayaks.
- Boats with four-stroke or direct-fuel-injection, two-stroke engines are allowed. Traditional carbureted or electronic fuel injection (EFI) two-stroke engines are prohibited.
- Metropolitan Water District has banned fuels containing MTBE from the lake.
- Engines must be cleaner burning models that comply with California Air Resources Board emission standards for model year 2001 or later (or the equivalent 2006 standard set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency).
- Boats equipped with sink drains or flush toilets are barred unless the drains and toilets are sealed, inoperable, or are designed so that no waste can be discharged into the lake.
- Engine noise must not exceed 75 decibels at a distance of 50 feet with the engine running at 80 percent of redline RPM. All engines must be unmodified, standard equipment.
- Multi-hulled boats must have solid and fixed decking.
Quagga and Zebra Mussels Boat Inspections
All boats must undergo a mandatory inspection. This inspection is to prevent the spread of Quagga and Zebra Mussels. All vessels must be clean, drained, and dry prior to entering Diamond Valley Lake.
