Fishing at Big Bear Lake
Big Bear Lake is home to a variety of sport fishing - Rainbow trout, largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegills, blue catfish, carp, and black crappie. The lake is well stocked with rainbow trout at least twice a year.
Where to Fish on Big Bear Lake
A good place to start would be the east end of the lake at the Stanfield Cutoff and work toward Windy Point. Some anglers report good success near the dam. The eastern end of the lake, beyond the telescope, is shallow, making it poor habitat for trout. Most fish seem to be caught between 15 and 30 feet down. News of good strikes near the Rock Wall and around Metcalf Bay come in all the time. One report calls the area from Metcalf Bay across to the north shore Trolling Alley. Others call the area from Eagle Point to Lagonita Point to the Solar Observatory Trout Triangle.
Shore fishermen like the north shore all the way from the dam out to Gray's Landing, as well as off Eagle Point and in Boulder Bay. Bass fishermen like to probe the weedy areas along the north shore and some of the rocky points.
