New Melones Lake Camping

New Melones Lake has two recreation areas managed by the Bureau of Reclamation: Tuttletown and Glory Hole. There are campgrounds located at both recreation sites. The gates to the areas open at 4:00 AM year-round. Closing times vary according to the schedule below:

New Melones Gate Hours

  • April - Memorial Day 4:00 AM - 10:00 PM
  • Memorial Day - Labor Day 4:00 AM - 11:00 PM
  • Labor Day - September 30 4:00 AM - 10:00 PM
  • October - March 4:00 AM - 9:00 PM

Day-use fees are $8, and a boat launch fee is an additional $2.
If you are camping the general fee is only $22, which includes your $8 day-use fee or your $10 day-use/launch fee.
Walk-in campsites are $18 per night

Additional camping can be found at nearby Calaveras Big Trees State Park and at some of New Melones' neighboring lakes. RV Parks are available only a few miles away at Frogtown and in Angels Camp.

Location: 2 Miles off Highway 49 on Whittle Road, campgrounds situated on a peninsula.
Campground Facilities: Piped Water, Restrooms, Showers, Nearby Dump Station and overflow parking
Campsite Amenities: 69 Standard Sites (Tent or RV), one ADA Site; paved parking, a BBQ grill/fire ring, picnic table, and tent site
