Lake Del Valle

Only a few miles from Livermore and just west of the San Francisco Bay Area, Lake Del Valle is a favorite day or weekend destination for many northern Californians. The Lake Del Valle State Recreation Area (operated by the East Bay Regional Park District) is popular for swimming, fishing, boating, horseback riding, and picnicking. The 5-mile long lake has a 10 MPH speed limit and does not allow jet skis. Among the boats seen most often on the lake are pontoon boats, fishing craft, sailboats, and kayaks. Boat rentals are available at the lake's marina operated by Rocky Mountain Recreation. The lake has a campground and swimming beaches with lifeguards in the summer.


Lopez Lake

Lopez Lake is located in San Luis Obispo County along California's central coast. The Lopez Lake Recreation Area is operated by San Luis Obispo Country Parks. The lake has 22 miles of shoreline and is a great places for everything from camping to boating. Visitors also enjoy hiking, picnicking, mountain biking, and fishing. There are 354 campsites at the lake. Windsurfers especially like Lopez Lake's windy coves and warm water. Lake Lopez Marina provides boat rentals year-round. They rent water ski boats, pontoon boats, and fishing boats. Anglers go after bass, rainbow trout, and catfish.


Pyramid Lake

Pyramid Lake is in the Los Angeles National Forest, just north of Lake Piru and Castaic Lake. Pyramid Lake has 1,360 surface acres and 21 miles of shoreline. The Pyramid Lake Recreation Area includes the Los Alamos Campground with 93 campsites, the Emigrant Landing Day Use Area and Boat Ramp, and Vaquero Beach. The lake is popular for waterskiing and jet skiing. The number of craft allowed on the lake each day is limited to avoid over-congestion. Other activities popular at the lake are picnicking, swimming, and fishing. Several day use areas are only accessible by boat. Anglers go after striped bass, large and smallmouth bass, catfish, bluegill, and crappie.


Lake Morena

Forty-six miles east of San Diego, Lake Morena is a favorite destination for bass anglers. It also has rainbow trout, catfish, redear sunfish, and bluegill. The speed limit on the lake is 10 MPH and there is no swimming allowed. Boats must be between 9 and 18 feet long. Lake Morena Regional Park is operated by San Diego County Parks and Recreation. They have campgrounds at the lake, many of the sites with partial hook-ups for RVs. They also have wilderness cabins for rent.


Lake Kaweah

Lake Kaweah rests in the foothills between Visalia and Sequoia National Park. Operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers, Kaweah has several recreation areas which include campgrounds, marinas, picnic areas, and boat launch ramps. The lake has about 1,900 surface acres and 22 miles of shoreline. Popular activities at the lake include water skiing, picnicking, and camping. Kaweah Marina rents patio boats, jet skis, and fishing boats. The lake is home to a variety of species of bass, trout, crappie, and catfish.


Crowley Lake

Crowley Lake is known as the best spot on the planet for opening day trout fishing. Located in Inyo County in eastern California, the 12-mile long lake sees as many as 10,000 anglers on its waters for the opening day festivities. The lake is also used for kayaking, water skiing, wakeboarding, and paddleboarding. All visitors must access the lake through Crowley Lake Fish Camp, the sole concessionaire on the lake. They have a full service marina, rentals boats, camping sites, and a tackle shop and store.


Silver Lake

Amador County's Silver Lake is located at an elevation of 7,200 feet in the Sierra near Carson Pass, 20 miles south of Lake Tahoe. There are two campgrounds at the lake. Anglers enjoy fishing for rainbow and brown trout either from shore or boat. Kit Carson Lodge rents fishing boats, kayaks, and canoes. They also have cottages and rooms for rent. Nearby are Lower Bear River Reservoir and Caples Lake. Caples Lake Resort has lodging and a marina with boat rentals.


Harry L. Englebright Lake

Harry L. Englebright Lake rests on the Yuba and Nevada counties boundary, 16 miles downstream from New Bullards Bar. The 9-mile long reservoir offers great water skiing, fishing, and boating. Skippers Cove Marina has houseboat rentals, along with ski boats, party boats, and fishing boats. The 815-acre lake is operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers. Only boat-in camping is allowed at the lake. A day use area is located at the Narrow Recreation Area.
