The June Lakes Loop includes four lakes - June Lake, Gull Lake, Silver Lake, and Grant Lake. The first three are the most scenic and have campgrounds along their shores as well as several marinas with boat rentals. Fishing is a major attraction in all the lakes around the loop.
The half dozen Mammoth Lakes are tucked up against the Eastern Sierra at around 9,000 feet in elevation. Campgrounds abound along the shores of the lakes and paved bike and walking trails connect all the major attractions. Fishing is popular for rainbow, brown, and Alpers trout.
Mono Lake is an Eastern Sierra treasure. With three times the salt content of the oceans, Mono Lake is a harsh environment for aquatic life. There are no fish in the lake; however, the lake is an important nesting area for birds. Visitors can learn about the lake at the Mono Basin Scenic Area Visitor Center near Lee Vining.
